German CPI remains flat in August, HICP rises 0.1%

German CPI remained flat in August and was up 0.4% from a year earlier, according to a preliminary reading released on Tuesday by the Federal Statistics Office.

Both readings came in slightly below expectations of +0.1% and +0.5% respectively.

Meanwhile, the HICP, the price index harmonized according to European Union standards, fell by 0.1% in August from July, and rose by 0.3% on the year, this latter below the 0.5% increase expected.
